The World Is a Mirror
*An artist statement for my final portfolio in my film photography class while studying abroad.*
The World Is a Mirror
The little green scooter seemed so simple,
as if it was waiting for me.
I approached cautiously, not wanting to tip the machine.
My face appeared in the sideview mirror
and I knew–this was it.
Snapping that first picture introduced me
to what I wanted to see and produce for my final project.
A complete collection of myself;
taken in everyday places, like the women’s bathroom,
or interesting perspectives,
such as a hand-held mirror in a flea market.
Further inspired by Duane Michals and his print manipulations,
my final project was born.
All I needed was imagination and patience,
four empty rolls, and a trigger happy personality.
